Challenges & solutions

The technical problems our team solved to ship a reliable, unified web experience.

Simultaneous API calls occurring right after token expiration triggered multiple refresh requests, causing token invalidation and abrupt user logouts.

Built a promise subscriber queue in `ApiClient` that pauses concurrent requests upon a 401 response, executes a single refresh request, and replays all pending requests seamlessly once the new token is acquired.

Continuous REST polling for incoming messages and alerts caused latency, high network traffic, and unnecessary server load.

Integrated Pusher WebSockets using a custom `useRealtime` hook with dynamic client imports, automatically binding channel events to TanStack Query caches and unbinding on unmount to prevent memory leaks.

Absolute pixel coordinates for emoji stickers and filters caused visual displacement when viewed on different screen sizes and aspect ratios.

Implemented percentage-based coordinate normalization (`x%`, `y%`, `size%`) relative to the story container frame, ensuring consistent sticker positioning across mobile and desktop displays.

Waiting for server confirmation for likes, reactions, votes, and saves made the feed feel sluggish.

Implemented optimistic UI updates via TanStack Query mutations that immediately reflect state changes in the UI and automatically rollback if an API error occurs.

Overview: Instagram-style ephemeral stories with built-in creative editing tools.
Features: Real-time visual photo filters (Vintage, Dramatic, Warm, Mono), resizable emoji stickers, 24-hour auto-expiry progress bar, story like reactions, and live viewer sheets.

Real-Time 1-on-1 & Group Messaging

Overview: Low-latency instant messenger for direct peer and group conversations.
Features: Group chat creation, live message delivery via Pusher WebSockets, multimedia attachments, unread message badges, and system event alerts.

Communities Hub & Role Hierarchy

Overview: Dedicated interest-based groups with custom privacy and discussion spaces.
Features: Public/private community directory, member invite dialogs, custom rules, role hierarchy (Owner, Moderator, Member), and community-filtered post feeds.

Admin Dashboard & Content Moderation Portal
