Two Databases, One Seamless Experience

A hybrid data architecture that pairs Firebase's real-time sync with SQLite's on-device reliability, so the app keeps working smoothly even when the network doesn't cooperate.

100%of core features remain usable offline
0reported cases of data loss from dropped connections
60%faster app launch time compared to the Firebase-only version
45%reduction in Firebase read/write costs at scale

The Challenge

“Built to work, even when the connection doesn't.”

A Firebase only setup works well when the connection is strong — but real users aren't always online. Elevators, basements, subways, rural areas, and spotty mobile data all cause the same problem: reads stall, writes queue up silently, and the UI can freeze or show blank states right when the user needs it most.

Solution & Architecture

SQLite as the source of truth on-device

Every screen reads from the local database first, so the UI never waits on the network.

Firebase as the real-time sync layer

Firebase handles live updates, notifications, and syncing data across devices in the background.

Writes go local first, then sync

User actions save to SQLite instantly, then queue for sync to Firebase — so nothing is lost if the connection drops mid-action.

Conflict resolution on reconnect

When connectivity returns, a sync layer reconciles any differences between local and remote data.

Fallback is invisible to the user

Whether online or offline, the experience looks and feels the same — no spinners, no blank screens, no "you're offline" dead ends.
